Riptide is an exciting 3D spaceship shooter that features a customization system which players must utilize to achieve victory through different combat scenarios.
My work on Riptide requires flexing all of the skills I've learned while attending Champlain as I am in charge of all aspects of the game that involve audio. This includes acting in roles such as:
Composer:
As the lead composer for Riptide I composed a variety of songs to fit the games various environments and menus. This process always started with consulting with the designers to establish what the look and the feel of a given level or menu would be. Music is important both in laying the foundation for and enhancing existing visual themes.
Sound Designer:
As the acting lead sound designer for Riptide I was tasked with handling sound effects from creation to implementation. The creation process for each sound effect would begin with a conversation with designers and artists. I bring up what the given object/action might sound like and what real world objects we could pull inspiration from. For Riptide, the artists were already pulling inspiration from real world navy weapons and armaments for the weapons of the ships in game. This meant I could also pull some auditory inspiration
Dialogue Designer:
As I was the lead dialogue designer for Riptide I worked closely with our team's narrative designer to get a sense for what each character should sound like. After the casting process I worked to help set up recording sessions with equipment as well as help to organize, edit, and implement the voice lines from those recording sessions.
